Project Types
The NNMC seeks revolutionary and disruptive innovations that are based on nanotechnology which most probably require specialized manufacturing to be developed. These projects must have strong commercial appeal and should have a comparable use for the military.

Current Projects
The Center is currently investigating projects involving printed electronics with nano-based inks, nanolithography sized antenna, and alternative solar power cells.

DARPA Special Notice SN06-16
DARPA Armor Challenge
“…improving passive vehicle armor materials and systems. To identify promising new armor systems for military vehicles,…”

This teleconference will generate at least one response to the challenge. It is expected to be a collaboration of at least two companies and possibly one university. Also identified were equipment and resources available to assist in the response, ultimately involving numerous members.

US Department of Energy Special Notice 07-18
Commercialization of “Nanoantenna Electro-Magnetic Collector” (NEC)
“…the opportunity to license, develop, and commercialize a disruptive new technology for collecting energy that may dramatically improve efficiency and reduce production costs….”

The original notice identified a gap in the technology. The call was not successful in filling this gap, however subsequent research by the Center has made significant progress in this area. The Center is pursuing the NEC project with the researchers and expects to hold further calls on this technology. This effort is developing multiple promising projects for the Center.
